Creepy Pair of Underwear! (Creepy Tales!) ![]() ![]() ![]() Father Michael says something very similar: “I find myself mourning the eternity of my death. He chuckled a little bit, sipped his Coke, and then told me he thought death was on both sides of life, and that life seemed to be just a brief interruption. One of the characters, Father Michael, a hard-drinking priest who likes to accentuate his face with lipstick, eye shadow, and rouge, speaks a few lines, not unlike what Denis once spoke to me back when I was his editor at Esquire many years ago and we were talking at an Italian restaurant about the possibility of an afterlife. There’s no more vivid, comic, tragic, and mesmerizing theatrical version of this fallen world than his final play Des Moines, now premiering in Brooklyn at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center, produced by The Theater for a New Audience, founded by Jeffrey Horowitz in 1979. The Esquire Book Club Holiday Gift Guide. ![]() ![]() ![]() When it takes place in continuity is a question, probably before or early in Zdarsky’s run, but the lesson is more important than history. The last part of the issue is a Lin Lie Iron Fist adventure that guest stars Daredevil. I won’t spoil the second part, but I will say this is a side of Matt Murdock that isn’t easy to see you want to embrace it, but it’ll leave a burn. The lone figure of Matt Murdock works beautifully to showcase the many “hits” this series has delivered to the main character, along with Matt’s never-ending source of Catholic Guilt. When Cole leaves the office, you can almost hear his sigh of relief, but then he quickly bows his head after a flashback, and you can see the weight on his shoulders. Latorre perfectly captures the guilt and pain as he showcases his characters walking in solitude, taking the moments to the next level. There won’t be any big battle scenes, except for a PTSD-style flashback, but overall it is very grounded at its core. Rafael de Latorre returns to this issue as an artist, and his style works for the realism this issue calls for. ![]() ![]() Though he wants to stay with her, Aedan builds a vessel because he needs to go home to help his people.
